Why do UN, IGAD, AMISOM and the “Federal Government of Somalia” seem to be breastfeeding some but stopping some from drinking its own camel’s milk? By: A Bulle,Msc

Southern Somalis acknowledge the good will of AMISOM’s Djiboutian troops when they spoke appropriately against the unwise announcement made by a member of the local Somali representatives of Beledweyne when he wrongly announced that all Somalis of Somalia who are not of Beledweyne are to vacate the town within a limited time. That gentleman was also corrected by many wise individuals and groups indigenous to Beledweyne and in Hiiraan region as a whole.

Secondly, it seems that even though AMISOM troops in Baidoa recently tried to prevent the indigenous Somalis of the 6 southern Somalia regions and their traditional representatives continue their conference in forming an inclusive federal state of Southwest State of Somalia (see the map below), they were good and civilized enough to vacate the site of the conference when the unarmed people of the 6 regions and their traditional representatives bravely challenged them.

The situation being as it is, the people of Southern Somalia are asking:

.Good that they are leaving Kismayo for the other Africans but is Kenya going Gedo or home?

. If for Gedo, what is the role of the Ethiopians who as part of AMNISOM were chosen to guarantee the security of the people of Gedo, Bay and Bakool regions?

. What prevented Lower Shabelle region (Shebeelaha Hoose) and Middle Juba (Jubbada Dhexe) from being part of the regions where the Ethiopians’ AMISOM area?

. Are the Ugandan and Burundians AMISOM troops in Lower Shebelle region to watch some elements of the clan based Somalia’s army go on hunting the indigenous Somali clans of Lower Shebelle’s Afgoye, Wanla Weyn, Number 50, Marka, Janaale, Mareerey etc even though they are paid to protect the Somalia oppressed population? The license to kill seems to be “just say these people Al Shabaab or Al Shabaab sympathisers”

. Are both Ethiopians and Kenyans armies there to prevent or facilitate the indigenous people of these 6 regions of Somalia in their wish for the formation of a federal state within Somalia?

. Will handing parts of these 6 regions to Somalis from Kenya and Ethiopia help Somalia recover from a quarter of a century of civil war and will its neighbours feel safer? Or will these foreign Somalis turn against the hand that fed them for they’ll always see the Kenyans and the Ethiopians as their historical subjugators?

. Even though Ethiopia is a guarantor of the unjust and not inclusive Addis Abba Agreement regarding the temporary Juba Administration between two Ethiopian Somalis, would it not be wise to correct that mistake now that it sees the indigenous Somalis of Somalia’s Baidoa conference is going on and then support its outcomes?

As for the Somalia’s President, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Federal Parliament, it seems ridiculous to bring a motion in the parliament regarding whether to allow some members of former Prime Minister Shirdon’s cabinet could become members of the new prime minister’s cabinet or not, but not putting any motions in front of the Parliament whether parts of Somalia can be handed over to Somalis from Kenya and Ethiopia.

. Which is more important, a parliamentary decision relating to an individual ability to become member of the cabinet or a decision relating to the future of at least one third of the Somalia’s population and one third of Somalia’s national territory?

Furthermore, Somalia’s indigenous Somalis of Southern regions are perplexed when the UN envoy goes to the “Inauguration of Jubaland leader” when there is no official Jubaland State but an Interim Juba Administration for a limited duration of time until a final solution is reached and saying “we are with you, the people of the three regions of Lower Juba, Middle Juba and Gedo” while he was fully aware that the representatives of the indigenous Somalis of those regions are currently in Baidoa discussing their future local government in the form of a South West State of Somalia.

. Does the UN envoy mean “we are against the indigenous Somalis of Somalia and for the Somalis from the neighbouring countries of Kenya and Ethiopia to take over these regions?”

. Is it not time for the UN, IGAD, AMISOM and the Somali Federal Government to respect the wishes of the indigenous Somalis of those 6 southern Somalia regions and help them in the delivery of their dreams or at least not prevent them from drinking their own camel’s milk?

Note: The aim in here is not to create hatred between Somalis or one towards not Somalis. The aim is to point out that what IGAD, AMISOM, UN and the Federal Government of Somalia seem to be doing in the 6 Southern Somalia regions doesn’t seem right and fair for the indigenous Somalis of Somalia specially when this comes on top of 7 years of subjugation by the Al Shabaab whose Somali leaders are mainly Somalis from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somaliland, Puntland (the main supporter of the Jubaland idea due to Somali clan politics) and central Somalia and whose Somali foot soldiers are mostly understood to be from those same areas and non-Somalis.
