Brief Background:

After the traditional Quranic School and basic Islamic Education in his hometown, Afgoi, he has successfully achieved the following educational credentials:

1942 – 1944: Teachers Training Courses in Mogadishu – Somalia

1950 – 1952:Scuola Politica & Amministrativa in Mogadishu – Somalia.

1952 – 1954: Higher Diploma Course in Education (Magistero) in Florence – Italy

1954 – 1956: Higher Diploma Course in Economy & Law at the “Istituto Superiore di Diritto ed Economia” in Mogadishu – Somalia

Career & Experiences

1944 – 1950: Teacher and Headmaster in different Schools in Somalia. During this period he has established many schools for the 1st time in different regions, and at the same time was an active member in the Somali Youth League (SYL).

He has founded the SYL Branch of Afgoi and served as Secretary General from 1945 to 1948.

1956 – 1957: Secretary of Council of Ministers to the first autonomous Somali Interim Government which was formed in Somalia under obligation of the UN trusteeship mandate in 1956, which coexisted with the Italian Trusteeship administration until July 1960. The Somali Autonomous cabinet consisted of a Prime Minister, Ministries of Interior, Finance, Health, Education, Justice, Economics and General Affairs.

1957: Chief of Cabinet to the Secretary-General of A.F.I.S. (Amministrazione Fiduciaria Italiana Della Somalia – Italian Trusteeship Administration of Somalia), while holding his position as Secretary to the Autonomous Somali Council of Ministers.

1957 – 1960: Based on the UN recommendation to train Somalis for Diplomatic and consular affairs, he was one of the selected trainees delegated to Cairo as an Officer in Charge of Somali Affairs at the Italian Embassy. During this period he was also trained for the practical diplomatic and consular services under the patronage of the Italian embassy. While serving in Cairo he attended annually the General assembly of the UN as a member of Somali Delegates participating in different committees of the General assembly of the United Nations in New York.

In the meantime, he was pursuing his University studies at Rome University from where he graduated in 1960.

July 1960: Assigned to set up the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organize its departments in Mogadishu.

1961 – 1965: Somali Ambassador accredited in Italy and the Vatican as well as to the European Common Market in Brussels. He was one of the first batch of diplomats appointed to Head the Somali diplomatic missions abroad.

1965 – 1968: Somali Ambassador to Germany – Bonn

1968 – 1970: Somali Ambassador in Egypt – Cairo

1970 – 1971: Director General at Ministry of Education – Somalia

1971 – 1972: Under arrest in solitary confinement in an underground cell in Mogadishu without trial for politically motivated aims for one year.

1972 – 1975: Self-employed at his hometown of Afgoi. In the meantime, he served as an Advocate in an associated law firm in Mogadishu together with Advocate Rufai Hagi Munye.

1975 – 1992: Advisor at the Presidential Court in Abu Dhabi – U.A.E.

1992 – 1998: Assistant Director General of the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation in Abu Dhabi – U.A.E.

1998 – 2010: Advisor at the Cultural Advisor’s Office, Presidential Court in Abu Dhabi – U.A.E (which become now the Ministry of Presidential Affairs after the demise of HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the 1st president of UAE).

2010 – Retired
