{"id":4231,"date":"2013-02-03T07:55:38","date_gmt":"2013-02-03T07:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daafeet.com\/?p=4231"},"modified":"2013-02-03T07:55:38","modified_gmt":"2013-02-03T07:55:38","slug":"kenyan-soldier-dies-in-grenade-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.daafeet.com\/2013\/02\/03\/kenyan-soldier-dies-in-grenade-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenyan soldier dies in grenade attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/daafeet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/bam.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4232\" alt=\"bam\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/daafeet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/bam.jpg?resize=290%2C290\" width=\"290\" height=\"290\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>NAIROBI \u2014 A soldier was killed and three people injured in a grenade attack in Kenya, police said Sunday, adding that the dead man was not a suicide bomber as previously thought.<\/p>\n<p>An anonymous police official said earlier that the blast, which occurred in the northeastern town of Wajir on Saturday, was caused by a suspected suicide bomber who died when his explosives blew up before reaching his apparent target.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was not a suicide bomber as earlier thought,&#8221; Charlton Mureithi, the regional police chief, said. &#8220;It was actually an attack on the officers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Two police officers and one civilian were injured in the blast after attackers hurled the grenade at the soldier.<br \/>\nMilitary spokesman Bogita Ongeri confirmed that a Kenyan trooper had died in the blast. &#8220;We lost an officer during the attack,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Attacks have increased in Kenya since Nairobi sent soldiers into Somalia to fight Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab insurgents in late 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The violence has been blamed on the insurgents or their Kenyan supporters, who have vowed revenge.<\/p>\n<p>The Shebab still control large parts of southern Somalia, despite African Union troops, allied Somali forces and Ethiopian soldiers having wrested control of several key towns.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source AFP<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI \u2014 A soldier was killed and three people injured in a grenade attack in Kenya, police said Sunday, adding that the dead man was not a suicide bomber as previously thought.
